What is Broadband Light?

Broadband Light, also known as BBL, utilizes pulsed light to treat sun spots, freckles, rosacea, and skin laxity. The bursts of light will heat the top layers of your skin. The heat stimulates collagen growth to reduce the appearance of sun spots, age spots, and other skin discolorations.

Blood vessels that cause red facial skin or visible veins can be targeted with Broadband Light. The heat causes the tiny capillaries to collapse and pull away from the surface of the skin. The redness will subside to produce a more even, attractive look to your skin tone.

The results of your BBL treatment will be largely dependent on the areas you had treated. With that said, following your procedure you can expect to see a dramatic improvement in the cosmetic imperfections that concerned you most, including sunspots, age spots, redness, rosacea and blotchy skin. In addition, your skin will possess a smooth and healthy glow that ensures you look as young and vibrant as you feel. At Marcus Medical, we routinely use BBL to treat:

  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Rosacea
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Brown and red spots
  • Large pores
  • Hyperpigmentation

What to Expect During the Procedure

Immediately prior to beginning your BBL treatment, you will be given protective eyewear to guard your eyes from the bright flashes of light associated with the procedure. We will then apply a cool gel to the treatment area to protect your healthy skin cells and ensure your comfort. From there, we will administer brief pulses of light using the specialized BBL handpiece, giving your skin the energy it needs to look its best. As BBL treatment is considered to be a very comfortable procedure, it is typically performed without an anesthetic.

Depending on the size of the area being treated, your procedure will take anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour, and most of our clients require between three and five treatments to achieve their ideal results. In most cases, the recovery period following BBL treatment is extremely short, as very little damage is done to the surface of the skin. Most clients only report very minor redness that subsides gradually over time. In order to protect your skin and ensure an ideal outcome, you will be advised to stay out of the sun for several days and to wear plenty of sunblock in the following weeks.

Am I a Good Candidate for BBL treatment?

At Marcus Medical, we’re committed to personalized care, and we only administer treatments if it’s truly in the client’s best interest. As such, we determine candidacy for all of our procedures on an individual basis, following a thorough discussion of your cosmetic goals, concerns and desires. However, in general, individuals are considered to be ideal candidates for this procedure if they have white, untanned skin, good elasticity, and wish to address skin imperfections that BBL treatment can effectively correct, such as enlarged pores, fine lines, rosacea, blotchy skin, skin discolorations and skin texture issues.

BBL treatment is not recommended for individuals who suffer from deep wrinkles or severe acne scars, as these issues tend to respond best to a more aggressive procedure. In addition, BBL is not typically effective on individuals with naturally dark or tan skin, as the procedure may contribute to changes in the client’s skin pigmentation. Please note that while these guidelines can provide you with an idea of who can benefit from this procedure, the only way to know if you are a candidate for among the best BBL treatment Manhattan Beach has available is to schedule a consultation today.
