Acorn Cell Preservation at Marcus Medical

In recent years, stem cell research has elicited some incredible results in the world of general medicine. It has also become a formidable new development in the realm of cosmetic procedures. Stem cells have the ability to revitalize the skin, thicken hair, and even keep the body free of disease.

Recent research shows that our body’s younger cells hold the key to rejuvenation. Acorn Cell Preservation is a procedure that involves non-invasively harvesting cells from the patient’s hair follicles and cryogenically freezing them. The cells are protected from the natural aging process, giving the patient an arsenal of younger cells to use in regenerative treatments.

What is cell preservation?

It is no secret in the industry that regenerative (stem cell) treatments will be leading the way in the future of cosmetology. There are already treatments being designed that can produce rejuvenating stem cell extracts, growth factors, exosomes, and new tissues using our own cells.

Naturally, the younger one’s cells are at the time of harvesting, the more useful they will be in a future treatment. As such, it is vital that patients have their cells stored early on in life before any extensive damage affects them. The younger a patient is at the time of cell banking, the better the results will be upon treatment.

What are the benefits of acorn cell preservation?

Stem cells are only useful for medical and cosmetic purposes if they are preserved. This allows for cells to be transferred from one area to another so that testing can be carried out safely and properly.

Some notable benefits of cell preservation include:

  • There is no risk of rejection, as the cells are harvested from your own body and reintroduced
  • A minimally invasive treatment that comes with few risks
  • A great option for patients who would prefer to avoid surgery
  • Rebuilds and fortifies healthy tissue
  • There is no lengthy downtime as there is with surgical procedures
  • No anesthesia is needed, as it is an incredibly mild procedure
  • No risk of transmitting any infectious diseases
  • A quick recovery period
  • Addresses various aesthetic issues

Who is an ideal candidate for cell preservation?

Who is an ideal candidate for cell preservation?

  • Issues with aging skin
  • Issues related to hair loss
  • Degenerative health conditions
  • A desire to reverse signs of aging in the face
  • Planning for the future

Beyond that, ideal candidates will be non-smokers who are in good overall health. They will also have reasonable expectations for the outcomes of the procedure.

What is the cell preservation procedure like?

This non-invasive procedure involves extracting 50 hair follicles from both the sides and the back of the head. The treatment session comes with little discomfort and can be carried out in as little as 15 to 20 minutes. Once the follicles are extracted, they are taken to Acorn’s lab for analysis before being cryogenically frozen. The cells are securely stored in a banking system where they can be accessed for treatments in the future.

What is cryogenic cell banking?

Cell banking is the process of collecting, freezing, and storing cells for future use in therapies and regenerative treatments. With Acorn cell preservation, the patient’s cells are harvested, processed, and analyzed to check for viability. Once they are confirmed, the cells are put into a storage unit that keeps them frozen at -310°F. This slows down their metabolism, preventing them from aging further.

What are stem cells?

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that have the potential to develop into various types of specialized cells. They are found in various tissues throughout the body and serve as a source of replacement cells for damaged or injured tissues.

Is there an age limit for stem cell banking?

There is no specific age limit for when one can decide to bank their stem cells. Generally speaking, the average patient will reach peak health at some point in their 20s. After that, they will begin to experience an arithmetic decline which continues into their 60s. Therefore, it is most often recommended that patients come in for cell preservation as soon as possible to ensure that their bank their cells as early as possible.

How can my cells be used in the future?

While there are currently no treatments offered that utilize banked cells, Acorn’s will be conducting its first trials with treatments in 2023. Acorn has been working closely with many universities and healthcare institutes throughout the United States and Canada in order to test new applications for cell banks and provide patients with some outstanding results.

What is the recovery process like?

As the procedure is minimally invasive and there is little discomfort, there is virtually no downtime associated with it.
